Utahns use nearly 2/3 of their water outdoors, and of that almost 50% is wasted overwatering. Utahns that water their landscape with a sprinkler system tend to water their landscape about right. But, people that use a timer with their sprinkler system tend to overwater by about 47%. Thus, there is a lot of room for improved efficiency of the operation of sprinkler systems.

What is Smart Sprinkling?

Smart Sprinkling is a water conservation campaign of the Utah Rivers Council designed to teach Utahns how to operate their sprinkler systems efficiently and thereby save water and money. The foundation of Smart Sprinkling is a short (about ten minute) video that outlines the Smart Sprinkling principles. The video is full of practical, Utah specific tips and easy to implement measures that Utahns can do in order to use their sprinkler system efficiently and save water. The video focuses on three main areas: designing an irrigation system, implementing the system, and maintaining it.
