Failed restaurateur and former state Representative, Aaron Tilton, is anxiously awaiting the final decision from State Water Engineer, Kent Jones, expected at the end of
September. Operating under the name Blue Castle Holdings, Tilton has been handed the rights to 53,600 acre-feet of tax payer subsidized water from the Green River by Rep. Mike Noel R-Kanab and the Kane County Water District for the purposes of placing nuclear reactors just outside the town of Green River, UT. Jones, the only Utah state official who can weigh in on the proposed use of public waters, is currently reviewing the viability of the water right change applications. These applications have been formally protested by a multi-state coalition of concerned organizations including the URC, HEAL Utah, Uranium Watch, Living Rivers, the Grand Canyon Trust, the Sierra Club Grand Canyon Chapter, SafeEnergyAnalyst.org, Environment Nevada, Environment California, Environment Arizona, Don’t Waste Arizona and the Arizona Wilderness Coalition among others. Jones has the power to deny any rights change application based on concerns for economic welfare or detriments to public welfare.
Stay tuned for more information as this multi-state coalition fights to keep nuclear reactors off the Green River and out of Utah.
